Terms of service
Last updated: October 20, 2026
1. About these Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply when you visit techniquescombat.com (the "Site"), create an account or buy from us. The Site and the Techniques store are operated by Techniques Combat ("Techniques", "we", "us" or "our"), based in Ontario, Canada. You can reach us at help@techniquescombat.com.
These Terms work together with our Refund Policy, our Shipping Policy, our Privacy Policy and any conditions shown with a specific offer or at checkout. If the conditions of a specific offer conflict with these Terms, the offer's conditions apply to that offer.
Please read these Terms before you place an order. When you place an order, you agree to the version of these Terms posted on the Site at that time. If you do not agree, please do not place an order. Sections 2, 14, 17 and 18 also apply whenever you use the Site, even if you do not buy anything.
Consumer protection laws give you rights that a contract cannot take away. Nothing in these Terms limits those rights. Where a section says it applies "to the extent the law allows", it applies only that far. Section 23 explains how these Terms apply in Quebec, in the rest of Canada, in the United States and elsewhere.
Our store runs on Shopify. Some features, such as Shop Pay, are provided by Shopify or other companies under their own terms.
2. Using our Site
You may use the Site to browse, to learn about our products and to buy them for yourself or as gifts. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Site only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, and a parent or guardian should place any order for you.
When you use the Site, you must not:
- break any law, or help anyone else to do so;
- use bots, scripts or other automated tools to browse, create carts or checkouts, place orders or buy limited products, or try to get around purchase limits;
- scrape, copy or harvest content, prices or data from the Site, other than through ordinary search engine indexing;
- try to gain unauthorized access to the Site, to other people's accounts or to our systems, test their security, or interfere with how they work, including by sending malicious code or excessive traffic;
- place fake, fraudulent or unauthorized orders, or use a payment method you are not authorized to use;
- impersonate anyone or give false information;
- harass, threaten or abuse anyone, including our staff, or post content that is unlawful or hateful or that infringes anyone's rights; or
- use the Site or its content to build a competing product or service.
We use security tools to detect automated and abusive traffic. If we reasonably believe someone has broken this section, we may block their access, cancel affected orders before they ship with a full refund, or close their account.
3. Your account
You do not need an account to buy from us. If you create one, please give accurate information, keep your login details secure and tell us promptly at help@techniquescombat.com if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for activity on your account, except activity that results from our failure to protect it or from someone using it without your permission when you were not at fault.
You can ask us to close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account if we reasonably believe it is being used for fraud or abuse or in breach of these Terms. Closing an account does not cancel orders that have already shipped and does not affect your rights on past purchases.
4. Products, sizing and product information
We work to describe and photograph our products accurately. Colours and textures can look different on different screens, and small variations can occur between production runs. Please check our size guides before you order, because sizing differs between gloves, guards and apparel.
Products and sizes can sell out, and we may discontinue a product at any time. We may limit the quantity of a product that one customer, household, account, payment method or address can buy, including to prevent reselling or automated buying, and we may offer some products only in some countries.
Unless a product page says otherwise, our products are made for training and personal use. They are not certified or approved for use in any particular competition or by any athletic commission or sport governing body. If you compete, check the equipment rules with your event organizer before you use our gear.
Articles, guides and other content on the Site are general information. They are not medical, coaching or other professional advice.
5. Safety and the risks of combat sports
Boxing, mixed martial arts, Muay Thai, kickboxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, wrestling and other combat sports involve physical contact and carry a real risk of injury. That includes serious injury such as concussion and other brain injury, cuts, fractures, and joint, ligament and soft-tissue injuries, and in rare cases permanent disability or death. These risks exist even with good training, supervision and equipment.
Protective equipment such as gloves, headgear, shin guards and knee and elbow guards can reduce some risks, but no equipment prevents every injury, and no equipment prevents concussion. Our apparel, such as rash guards, shorts and shirts, is not protective equipment.
To use our products as safely as possible:
- choose the right size, type and weight for your body, your discipline and the kind of training you do, and check the fit before you train;
- read and follow the labels, care instructions and any warnings that come with the product;
- inspect your gear before each use and stop using it if it is damaged, torn, compressed or worn, or if it no longer fits securely, because padding and closures wear out with use;
- train under qualified supervision, with partners and drills suited to your level, and follow the rules of your gym and of any event you take part in;
- wear the other protective equipment your activity calls for, such as a mouthguard, headgear or groin protection;
- use body care products only as directed on the label, and stop using them if irritation occurs; and
- talk to a doctor before you start or return to training, especially after an injury, and stop training and get medical care if you are hurt or show any sign of a head injury.
Gear for young athletes should be chosen, fitted and supervised by a parent, guardian or coach.
By buying and using our products, you acknowledge these risks and accept the risks that are part of combat sports themselves. This acknowledgment does not limit our responsibility for products that are defective or unsafe, for our own negligence or for any other liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
If you think one of our products has a safety problem, or someone was injured while using it, please stop using it and contact us right away at help@techniquescombat.com. We look into every report and, where the law requires, report it to Health Canada or other authorities.
6. Prices, currency and taxes
Prices are shown in the currency displayed on the Site, which depends on your location and currency selection. Our store's base currency is the US dollar. If you shop in another currency, such as Canadian dollars, prices may be converted from US dollars and rounded, and you are charged the amount shown at checkout in the currency shown there.
If your card or bank account uses a different currency from the one you pay in, your bank or card issuer may convert the charge and add its own fees. Those fees are set by your bank, not by us. Refunds are made in the currency you paid in; because exchange rates change, the amount that reaches an account in another currency may differ slightly from the original charge.
The price shown for a product is the price of that product. Before you pay, checkout shows the product prices, any shipping charges, any applicable taxes and, where we collect them, any duties, together with the total and the currency. We do not add any other mandatory fees.
Sales taxes, such as GST, HST, QST or PST for Canadian deliveries and US sales tax where we are required to collect it, are calculated at checkout based on your delivery address.
We may change prices and offers at any time. A change does not affect an order you have already placed, except as explained in Section 8 for errors.
7. Duties, import taxes and cross-border orders
We ship to Canada, the United States and the other destinations offered at checkout. If your order crosses a border to reach you, the destination country may charge import duties, tariffs, import taxes and brokerage or customs-clearance fees.
- If checkout shows and collects these charges, or says that duties are included, you will not have to pay them again on delivery.
- If checkout does not collect them, you are the importer of the goods and these charges are your responsibility. They are set and collected by the customs authority or the carrier, not by us, and may be payable before delivery. Where we can reasonably estimate them, we tell you at checkout.
If you refuse a delivery, or do not pay these charges and the order comes back to us, we will refund the price of the products once we receive them, less the original shipping charge and any return shipping, duty or disposal charges the carrier bills us for that order, unless the law requires otherwise.
Customs rules, tariffs, sanctions and carrier restrictions can change. If we can no longer ship an order you have placed to your destination, we will cancel it and give you a full refund.
8. Placing an order and how a contract is formed
Before you place an order, checkout shows a summary of it: the products, their prices, shipping charges, taxes, any duties we collect, the total, the currency and the delivery options, with links to these Terms and our policies. You can review and correct your order and your details, and accept or decline the order, before you pay.
When you place an order, you are offering to buy the products. We then email you to confirm that we have received your order. Unless the law where you live says otherwise (see Section 23 for Quebec), our contract with you is formed when we accept your order by sending a shipping confirmation. The order confirmation and shipping confirmation emails, together with these Terms, are your copy of our agreement, so please keep them.
We may decline or cancel an order, in whole or in part, before it ships if:
- a product is out of stock or discontinued;
- there is an obvious error in a product's price, description or availability (see below);
- we cannot verify your payment, or we reasonably suspect fraud, an unauthorized transaction or the use of automated tools;
- the order goes over a purchase limit;
- we cannot ship to your address or destination; or
- completing the order would break the law.
If we cancel all or part of an order, we will tell you and refund everything you paid for the cancelled part, including shipping, to your original payment method within 15 days.
Errors: despite our efforts, a product may occasionally be listed at the wrong price or with wrong information. If a price is obviously wrong, for example far below the product's usual price because of a typing or system error, we will contact you before shipping and let you choose to buy at the correct price or cancel for a full refund. If we find the error only after your order has shipped, we will honour the price you paid. If you are in Quebec, we will never charge more than the price shown when you placed your order.
9. Cancelling an order
If you want to cancel an order, contact us as soon as possible at help@techniquescombat.com. If it has not yet been packed or shipped, we will cancel it and refund you in full. Once it has shipped, you can return it under our Refund Policy.
You also have the following rights, in addition to our Refund Policy:
- Late delivery: if we do not deliver your order within 30 days after the delivery date we gave you (or the last day of the delivery estimate we gave you), or within 30 days after you placed the order if we gave no date, you may cancel it at any time before it is delivered, unless you agreed to a later delivery date.
- Shipping delays: if we cannot ship your order within the time we stated, or within 30 days after you ordered if we did not state a time, we will tell you, give you a revised shipping date and let you cancel for a full refund.
- Missing information: if we did not give you the information the law requires before you ordered, or did not send you a copy of your order within the time the law requires, you may have a right to cancel within the period set by the consumer protection law that applies to you, such as Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002 or Quebec's Consumer Protection Act.
When you cancel under this section, we refund everything you paid, including shipping, within 15 days after we receive your cancellation notice. If you have already received the products, please return them within 15 days; we will pay the reasonable cost of returning them when you cancel because of our late delivery or missing information. If we do not refund you as required, you may be able to ask your credit card issuer to reverse the charge.
10. Payment
We accept the payment methods shown at checkout. Payments are processed by Shopify and its payment partners, or by the other payment provider you choose; we never receive or store your full card number. Your payment is authorized when you place your order. If a payment is declined or reversed, we may cancel the order.
If checkout offers an instalment or buy-now-pay-later option, that option is provided by another company under its own terms.
We use fraud-screening tools. We may contact you to verify an order and may cancel an order we cannot verify, with a full refund.
11. Shipping, delivery and risk of loss
Shipping options, costs and delivery estimates are shown at checkout and in our Shipping Policy. Delivery estimates depend on your location and the carrier. They are estimates, not guarantees, but your rights in Section 9 apply if an order is late.
Please make sure your shipping address is complete and correct. If an order cannot be delivered, or comes back to us, because of an incorrect or incomplete address you gave us or because it was not collected from the carrier, you are responsible for the cost of sending it again, and the original shipping charge is not refundable. If you notice an error in your address, contact us right away; we will try to update it before the order ships but cannot guarantee that we can.
Ownership of the products, and the risk of loss or damage, pass to you when the order is delivered to the shipping address you gave us or to the pickup point you chose.
If your order arrives damaged, is missing items, or shows as delivered but did not reach you, please contact us as soon as you can, ideally within 7 days of the delivery date shown by the carrier, with your order number and photos of any damage. We will work with the carrier and, where the loss or damage happened before delivery, replace the products or refund you.
12. Returns, exchanges, refunds and defective products
Our Refund Policy explains returns and exchanges. In short: you may return eligible items within 30 days after you receive them if they are unused, unworn and in their original packaging, with proof of purchase; you pay for return shipping, and original shipping charges are not refunded; sale items are final sale; and regular-priced items can be exchanged for a different size.
Those conditions apply to returns made because you changed your mind or need a different size. They do not limit your rights if a product:
- arrives damaged or defective;
- is not as described, or is not the product or size you ordered; or
- does not meet the standard of quality, fitness for purpose or durability that the law requires.
In those cases, "final sale" and the 30-day return period do not apply. Contact us with your order number, a description of the problem and photos, and we will repair, replace or refund the product, including the reasonable cost of shipping, as the law requires. We may ask you to send the product back so we can inspect it.
Our products come with the warranties and conditions that consumer protection and sale of goods laws provide, for example that goods are of acceptable quality and reasonably fit for their ordinary purpose, and we do not exclude them. Unless a product page or the packaging says otherwise, we do not give an additional written warranty. Normal wear from training and sparring, damage caused by misuse, accidents, alterations or not following the care instructions, and gear used beyond its useful life are not defects.
Refunds go back to your original payment method. Once a refund is approved, we process it promptly; your bank or card issuer may take a few more days to show it.
13. Promotions, discount codes and gift cards
- Each promotion or discount code has its own conditions, shown with the offer. Unless the offer says otherwise, codes are single-use, one per order, cannot be combined with other offers, cannot be applied to orders already placed and have no cash value.
- Sign-up offers, such as a discount on your first order for subscribing to our emails or texts, are for new subscribers and can be used once per person. We may refuse a sign-up offer used through duplicate or false sign-ups.
- We may end or change a promotion at any time, but we will honour codes already issued until the end date stated with them.
- If you return an item bought with a discount, your refund is the amount you actually paid for that item.
- If we sell gift cards, they do not expire and carry no fees. A gift card cannot be exchanged for cash except where the law requires it. Please keep your gift card code safe.
14. Reviews and other content you share
We welcome honest reviews, photos, videos, comments and other content ("Content") about our products, whether you submit it on our product pages, through our review provider Judge.me, by email or by tagging us on social media.
When you submit Content to us:
- it must be your own honest opinion and experience, and accurate where it states facts;
- you must own it or have permission to share it, including from anyone who appears in a photo or video, and from a parent or guardian for anyone under the age of majority;
- you must say so if you received anything for it, such as a free product, payment, a discount or an affiliate commission, or if you have any other connection with us; and
- it must not be unlawful, defamatory, obscene, hateful or harassing, must not infringe anyone's rights, and must not include anyone's personal information (such as a phone number or home address) or malicious code.
You keep ownership of your Content. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free and transferable licence, which we may extend to the service providers who help us operate the Site, to use, copy, publish, display, translate, adapt (for example, crop or resize) and distribute your Content, with the name or username you submitted with it, on the Site, in our emails and on our social media channels and advertising. If you ask us to remove a review or other Content, we will remove it from the Site and stop using it in new materials within a reasonable time; materials already printed or published may remain. To the extent the law allows, you waive any moral rights in your Content for these uses.
Tagging us in a post on your own social media account does not by itself give us permission to use that post in our advertising. We will ask you first.
How we handle reviews: we publish reviews whether they are positive or negative, and we do not change their meaning. We may decline or remove Content that breaks the rules above, that is spam or not about our products or service, or that we reasonably believe is fake or written by someone with an undisclosed connection to us. We do not remove reviews because they are negative, and we do not offer anything in exchange for a positive review. If we offer an incentive for leaving a review, it will not depend on what the review says, and we label those reviews where required.
Nothing in these Terms stops you from posting an honest review, comment or complaint about us or our products anywhere, or from making a complaint to a government authority.
Ideas and feedback: if you send us ideas, suggestions or feedback, we may use them without paying you and without keeping them confidential. This does not apply to content covered by a separate written agreement, such as an athlete or creator agreement.
15. UGC athlete and affiliate programme
You can apply to our UGC athlete and affiliate programme using the application form on the Site. Submitting an application does not mean you are accepted. We choose participants at our discretion and may change or close the programme at any time.
If you are accepted, the terms we agree with you in writing, such as commission rates, payment terms, products, content rights and deliverables, govern your participation and take priority over these Terms where the two conflict. Unless we agree otherwise in writing, participants receive no payment or other compensation.
Everyone in the programme must:
- clearly disclose their connection with Techniques in every post, video, story or review that mentions us or our products, for example by using the platform's paid-partnership label and saying plainly that they are a Techniques partner, affiliate or ambassador or received free products, as required by Canada's Competition Act and the Ad Standards influencer disclosure guidelines and, in the United States, the Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides;
- give only their honest opinion, make only claims about our products that are true and that we have approved, and never claim that our products prevent injury or concussion;
- follow the rules of each social media platform and the law, including copyright, privacy and advertising law; and
- not use spam, fake reviews or misleading coupon or cash-back sites to promote us.
Programme participants are independent. They are not our employees, agents or legal partners, and they cannot make promises or commitments on our behalf. We may end a person's participation if they break these rules.
16. Wholesale and business purchases
If you buy from us as a business, including through our wholesale programme, separate wholesale terms may also apply. The parts of these Terms that exist only because of consumer protection law do not apply to business purchases, and Sections 19 to 21 apply to business purchasers in full, to the extent the law allows.
17. Intellectual property
The Site and its content, including the Techniques name and logos, product designs, graphics, photos, videos, text and software, belong to us or to our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. We give you a limited, personal and non-transferable permission to view the Site and use it to shop with us. You may share links to our pages and post about products you have bought. Otherwise, you may not copy, modify, distribute, sell or use our content or trademarks, or make products that copy our designs, without our written permission.
If you believe content on the Site infringes your rights, email us at help@techniquescombat.com with the details, and we will look into it promptly.
18. Third-party services and links
The Site uses services from other companies, such as Shopify for our store and checkout, payment providers, carriers, our review provider and social media platforms, and it may link to other websites. Those companies provide their services under their own terms and privacy policies. We choose our providers carefully, but we do not control other companies' websites and are not responsible for their content or practices. This does not limit our responsibility to you for our own products, or for the providers we use to sell and deliver them to you.
19. Disclaimers
The Site: we work to keep the Site available, accurate and secure, but we cannot promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors, or that every piece of information on it is complete and current at all times. We may change, suspend or stop any part of the Site.
Our products: our products come with the warranties and conditions that the law gives consumers, as described in Section 12. We do not exclude or limit them where the law does not allow it.
Business purchasers: if you buy as a business and not as a consumer, then to the extent the law allows, our products and the Site are provided without any warranty or condition other than those stated in these Terms, and we exclude all implied warranties and conditions, including those of merchantable quality and fitness for a particular purpose.
20. Limitation of liability
If you are a consumer in Quebec, this Section 20 does not apply to you. If you are a resident of New Jersey, this Section 20 does not apply to you.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or by a defective product, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or for any other liability that the law does not allow us to limit or exclude, including your rights under consumer protection and sale of goods laws.
Subject to the paragraph above, and to the extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you placed your order, or for indirect or consequential losses, such as loss of profits, income, business or opportunity;
- we are not liable for injury or loss caused by the inherent risks of combat sports described in Section 5, by using a product in a way it was not designed for, or by continuing to use a product that is damaged or worn out, unless the injury or loss results from a defect in our product or from our negligence; and
- our total liability to you for any claim about an order or a product is limited to the amount you paid for that order, including shipping and taxes, and for any other claim about the Site, to CAD $100.
21. Indemnity
If you are a consumer in Quebec, this Section 21 does not apply to you. If you are a resident of New Jersey, this Section 21 does not apply to you.
You agree to compensate us for reasonable losses, including reasonable legal costs, that we suffer because of a claim by someone else arising from Content you submitted that infringes their rights or breaks the law, or from your deliberate misuse of the Site, such as fraud or an attack on our systems. We will tell you promptly about any such claim and let you take part in responding to it. This section does not require you to compensate us for losses caused by our own fault.
22. Governing law and resolving disputes
These Terms, and any dispute about them, the Site or your purchases, are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the province, territory, state or country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts where you live, including small claims court, as those laws allow. Otherwise, the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction. If you buy as a business, the courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction.
We do not require consumers to resolve disputes by arbitration. Nothing in these Terms prevents you from bringing or joining a class action, or from making a complaint to a consumer protection office or any other authority.
If you have a problem, please contact us first at help@techniquescombat.com so we can try to fix it. This is a request, not a condition of any legal right you have.
23. Your rights where you live
Quebec
If you live in Quebec, Quebec's Consumer Protection Act and the Civil Code of Québec apply to your purchases in addition to these Terms. In particular:
- Quebec law treats our product listings as offers, so your contract is formed when you place your order, not when we ship it, and the second paragraph of Section 8 applies to you only to that extent;
- we may decline or cancel your order under Section 8 only where Quebec law allows it, and if we do, we refund you in full;
- we will never charge you more than the price shown when you placed your order;
- Sections 20 and 21 do not apply to you, and nothing in these Terms limits our liability for bodily or moral injury or frees us from the consequences of our own acts or those of our representatives;
- changes to these Terms apply only to orders placed after the change; and
- you may bring a claim before the courts of Quebec.
Other provinces and territories
Consumer protection laws in Ontario and in the other provinces and territories give consumers rights that cannot be waived, including rights about the information sellers must give for online sales, cancellation and refunds. Those rights apply in addition to these Terms.
United States
If you live in the United States, these Terms apply subject to the consumer protection laws of your state that cannot be waived. Some states do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or the limitation of incidental or consequential damages, and some give consumers additional rights. In those states, Sections 19 and 20 apply only to the extent your state's law allows. If you are a resident of New Jersey, Sections 20 and 21 do not apply to you.
California residents: under California Civil Code section 1789.3, you may contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by telephone at (800) 952-5210.
Outside Canada and the United States
If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another country we ship to, you also have the rights given by the mandatory consumer law of your country, such as any statutory right to withdraw from an online purchase within 14 days. Nothing in these Terms limits those rights.
24. Events beyond our control
We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as natural disasters, extreme weather, fire, flood, epidemics, war, terrorism, strikes, carrier or customs delays, border closures, sanctions, government action, power or internet outages, or cyberattacks we could not reasonably have prevented. If such an event delays your order, we will tell you, and you may cancel it for a full refund of anything you paid for products not yet delivered. This section does not affect your rights under Section 9.
25. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law, our products or the way we operate. We will post the new version on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Changes apply only to orders placed after they are posted; each order is governed by the version in force when it was placed. If you have an account, we will tell you about significant changes by email or with a notice on the Site.
26. General
- These Terms, our policies and the conditions of any specific offer make up the whole agreement between you and us about your use of the Site and your purchases.
- If a court finds any part of these Terms invalid or unenforceable, that part will be limited or removed only as much as necessary, and the rest of these Terms will stay in effect.
- If we do not enforce a right under these Terms right away, we can still enforce it later.
- We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms to another organization, for example if we sell our business, without reducing your rights. You may not transfer your rights or obligations without our written consent.
- We communicate with you electronically, and you agree that electronic confirmations, notices and records meet any legal requirement for them to be in writing, to the extent the law allows.
- Headings are for convenience only.
- Sections that by their nature should continue after an order is completed or an account is closed, such as Sections 12, 14, 17 and 19 to 23, continue to apply.
